After entering the Zoo, visitors came upon the Mirror Pool, which was funded by Anne Zimmerman and completed in 1922. Elephant seals lived there, replaced later by penguins. Beyond were the monkey exhibits, funded by the San Diego Hotel Association. On either side of the pool were the remnants of an orange grove, which was originally part of an agriculture demonstration at the 1915-1916 Panama-California Exposition.
