New Faces

Some of the new faces visitors were seeing at the Zoo were from the expedition Dr. Harry and Si Perkins took to the Philippines and Indonesia, including the strikingly handsome and exotic-looking Celebes macaques. Chesty, the male, paused in plucking grapes long enough for the photographer to get his portrait (left). Other new faces were homegrown: Babe and Kasper, the Zoo’s grizzly bears, became parents to two cubs in 1936, the Zoo’s first grizzly cubs. Simon, the male, hitches a ride back to the exhibit after a weigh-in (below), while Lottie, the female, gets a little TLC from mom, Babe.
