Bird keeper Kenton C. Lint and the emu chick he helped hatch and raise in electric incubators at the San Diego Zoo. Upon returning from his military service, K.C. gave credit to Belle Benchley for keeping the Zoo running during the war, saying, "Belle had always been like a mother to me. When I went away during the war, she picked up my basket and fed all my birds for the three years I was gone. When I got back, my job was right there waiting for me."
