Bosco, a young walrus, came to the Zoo in 1951 and charmed visitors with his whistles, barks, and whiskered face—even if he did snarf up his food in a less-than-elegant manner. He was highlighted in a ZOONOOZ article title "Bosco and the Battle of the Bulge," not because he'd gotten too big, but because finding the right diet for young walruses was tricky in those days, and the keepers were working to fatten him up! They reported that he was doing well, packing on the pounds like a good walrus should.
