The San Diego Zoo had long hoped for a pair of white rhinos. The arrival of 1,655-pound Mandhla (meaning "the strong one" in the Zulu language) and 1,456-pound Tombasan (meaning "nice girl") on September 8, 1962, was a very exciting day.
