High adventure at the Zoo: Opening day for Skyfari was March 20, 1969, with a media event and ribbon cutting ceremony. The views from the first gondola off to the far side of the Zoo were enjoyed by radio and television personality Art Linkletter; Sam Lofting, San Diego deputy mayor; GeorgiAnn Amaguin, representing the children of San Diego; and Pat Johnson, a Western Airline stewardess.
