A perimeter fence was built to define the borders of the Park property—no easy task in the rugged hills to the north and east! As progress was made, people began to pull off highway 78 to get a glimpse of what was taking place, watching construction and the first animals through binoculars. The Zoo even created an information stand where a staff member could answer questions.
Director of collections for the Wild Animal Park, James Dolan, Jr., was hard at work building the animal collection at the same time the grounds were being developed and construction was taking place. As soon as an area had the necessary support, the animals moved in. Here, giraffes and Cape buffalo cohabitate with bulldozers.
Some recognizable shapes start to appear in the village area as construction proceeds at a steady clip.
