Completion of the new bonobo habitat at the Zoo meant that the bonobos that had been living in temporary quarters at the Wild Animal Park could now move into their new home. As soon as they did, they did a little redecorating: they ate large portions of the edible plants, particularly guava leaves, bamboo, palms, hibiscus, ficus, ginger, banana leaves, and mulberry. The plants were intended for them to eat—but not all at once! It was definitely happy

Bonobo Road Now Open: An extensive new habitat for the San Diego Zoo’s troop of bonobos opened in April 1993, with palms to climb, vines to swing, rocks to scale, and so much activity that visitors didn’t know where to look first!
