A Tale of Tigers
When Moka, a five- to six-week-old Bengal tiger cub, was discovered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on the floor of a man’s car as he tried to smuggle the cat across the border, it was an example of the consequences of illegal wildlife trafficking. Moka was fortunate to get the help he needed—he was confiscated, then brought to the Safari Park for care. Luckily, he was overall in good health, and eagerly took to bottle feeding. A few weeks later, he also got a playmate. A single Sumatran tiger cub named Rakan was born at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, but was rejected by his mother; he came to the Safari Park as well, so the two could grow up together. They were quite the dynamic duo when they were introduced into the Park’s Tiger Trail!
