There was more excitement at the Safari Park’s Walkabout Australia in November, when the Park’s first Matschie’s tree kangaroo joey began coming out of her mother’s pouch. When female Polly and male Spike were paired in their new Walkabout Australia habitat, the animal care team was hoping for a birth of this endangered species. When they took a look in Polly’s pouch in September—which was possible because of the great relationship the keepers had built with her—sure enough, their wish came true. Polly was a great mom, and the female joey, named Luka, thrived and grew, which resulted in some comical positions as she got bigger than the pouch!
