Bai Yun, the 27-year-old female giant panda (seen here), and her son, 6-year-old Xiao Liwu, returned to their native land in China on May 16, 2019. Keepers who traveled with them reported that they had a smooth trip, and both were doing well when moving into their new home at the Dujiangyan base in Sichuan province of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda.

Integration 2017 - 2026

On May 16, 2019, SDZG’s long-term giant panda breeding loan ended, and Bai Yun and her sixth cub, Xiao Liwu, left the San Diego Zoo to go to China. After 25 years, it was truly the end of an era.
