Interestingly, Elmer Otto was unknown to the Zoo staff until they were informed that he had left funds to the Zoo in his will. He was a member, but had rarely come to the Zoo—his main connection was through the television show "Zoorama," which he wrote he very much enjoyed and appreciated the educational benefit it had for the community and for children. Since he had no children of his own, he wrote that he hoped his bequest could benefit children in San Diego through experiences at the Zoo. He would undoubtedly be proud to know how many young lives his generosity has touched through the years.
