The seven elephants were: Swazi, the matriarch of the herd; Ndlulamitsi, nicknamed Ndula, whose name means "taller than trees"; Litsemba, nicknamed Samba, whose name means "hope"; Umgani, whose name means "friend"; Umoya, nicknamed Moya, whose name means "spirit"; Lungile, whose name means "good-natured one"; and Mabhulane the male, nicknamed Mabu, whose name means "he who walks in hostile places" and was named for a respected game warden in Swaziland.
