To kick off its next 100 years, San Diego Zoo Global publicly announced its “Roaring Forward” capital campaign on November 7, 2015, the largest fundraising campaign in the Zoo’s history. The goal of this seven-year effort is to raise $400 million by the close of 2017, to help fund the Zoo and its conservation work as it steps into a second century of saving species. Berit Durler, campaign chair and member of the board of trustees for San Diego Zoo Global said about the campaign, “While this may appear to be a staggering goal, it is our starting line, not where we end. The most important aspect of the $400 million is the impact the Roaring Forward campaign will make for children, wildlife, and the natural world.” This is the organization's first comprehensive campaign designed to use all contributions to fight extinction of the Earth’s rarest and most vulnerable animal and plant species. In announcing the public phase of the campaign, San Diego Zoo Global hopes to involve all its supporters to help make the Zoo’s hopes and dreams for the future a reality.
