Endangered Species Day 2015 saw a groundswell that turned into a wave of impassioned support for rhino conservation when San Diego Zoo Global launched the #Rally4Rhinos campaign. Designed to raise awareness about the plight of all rhinos, a main inspiration was the impending fate of the northern white rhino. Local school groups attended an event at the Safari Park, and a symposium with speakers on the topics of rhino conservation and wildlife trafficking was held at the Institute for Conservation Research. A social media campaign to write "Stop Killing Rhinos" on your hand and post a photo of it went viral, with posts from Europe, South Africa, Vietnam, and Australia in addition to the U.S., and the hashtag #Rally4Rhinos trended third on Twitter nationally for most of the day.
