Growth 1947 - 1956

In 1947, radio station KSDJ and the San Diego Zoo begin a series of local Tuesday evening radio shows called “Animal Kingdom,” with informal discussions of natural history prompted by questions sent in from listeners. The show was hosted by Brad Harris (standing) and featured three regular participants from the San Diego Zoo: general curator Ken Stott, Jr. (far right), reptile curator Si Perkins (seated next to Ken), and education director Jackie Schermerhorn (far left). Each week, a special guest naturalist joined them; on this occasion, marine biologist Dr. Carl Hubbs of Scripps Institution of Oceanography (center).
