As his siblings had before him, Bai Yun’s sixth cub, Xiao Liwu, whose name means “little gift,” took the San Diego Zoo—and the world, via Panda Cam—by storm. His keepers described Mr. Wu (as he’s still affectionately called) as an extremely smart, precocious, and observant cub. He enjoyed rolling in different scents: ginseng root, wintergreen, and cinnamon were favorites. He was usually laid back and relaxed, and once he was weaned, he loved his bamboo.
