The Safari Park's beloved Nola, one of only four northern white rhinos remaining on the planet, was the inspirational icon for San Diego Zoo Global's Rally 4 Rhinos in May 2015 on Endangered Species Day, to call attention to the dire plight of rhinos in their native habitat. Rampant rhino poaching for their horns continues to decimate all rhino populations, and if nothing changes, all rhino species could be extinct by 2020.
Endangered Species Day 2015 saw a groundswell that turned into a wave of impassioned support for rhino conservation when San Diego Zoo Global launched the #Rally4Rhinos campaign. Designed to raise awareness about the plight of all rhinos, a main inspiration was the impending fate of the northern white rhino.
