A Centennial Community Celebration
The Centennial Community Celebration show also included beautiful, one-of-a-kind puppets of an elephant, a condor, a rhino, giraffes, orangutans, and flamingos. They were accompanied by dancers and an original musical score performed by an orchestra and a choir. The Spreckels Organ Pavilion stage was lit up with lighting effects and a gorgeous series of projected images that provided the backdrop for the production. Broadway star Heather Headley wowed the audience with a song urging everyone to help make the world a better place, and 508 participants helped San Diego Zoo Global set a record for the most people putting on a puppet show at the same time, officiated and authorized by Guinness World Records! The May 14 event kicked off the Zoo’s centennial summer—and the puppets will hold court every evening during Nighttime Zoo!
