Bird keeper Kenton C. Lint and the emu chick he helped hatch and raise in electric incubators at the San Diego Zoo. Upon returning from his military service, K.C. gave credit to Belle Benchley for keeping the Zoo running during the war, saying,

Ken Stott, Jr. was a mammal keeper when he was drafted for military service. Upon his return, he was promoted to mammal curator—as well as acting as the editor of ZOONOOZ magazine. He had written a series of articles for ZOONOOZ about his travels during the war, including zoos he visited when he was on leave. Staff Returns from the War

Once World War II was over, the staff who had been away serving in the military returned to San Diego and to the San Diego Zoo, many of them to new positions.
