In 1991, the San Diego Zoo celebrated its 75th birthday with a year of special events. It kicked off on January 15, when the San Diego City Council adopted Resolution R-277213, which proclaimed 1991 to be the “San Diego Zoo 75th Birthday Year” in San Diego, and offered the Zoo their congratulations. The Zoo opened the new habitat for gorillas as part of the festivities, and other zoos from around the world sent the Zoo new species in honor of the anniversary. A display of memorabilia in October took a look back, and a collectible set of commemorative pins was given to Zoo members. A grand time was had by all!
